Are you ready for fiber optic internet?

Are you struggling with internet service due to where you live?  Fiber optics are widely considered the gold standard for Internet service.  The fiber optic technology we are deploying is capable of very high speeds, up to 1,000Mbps, otherwise known as 1 gig service.  You will be able to stream 4K video, experience faster downloads, have a consistent experience, and will be able to do anything else the future can dream up.  Our service has NO data caps and no slowdowns.  Our network is 100% unlimited with no data prioritization or small print.  Fiber technology is very reliable and immune to many issues that plague copper and coax-based networks.  Our construction method of building 100% underground vs choosing to go aerial on wooden poles, which can be more easily damaged by vehicles, weather, and trees, makes service that much more reliable.

Needs vary depending on how you use your connection. We recommend 25Mbps of download speed for each active person using our service. To simplify without the technical details, this will let each person simultaneously stream a Netflix UHD or similar video stream at the same time. For example, we would recommend a family of four to subscribe to at least a 100Mbps connection. There are cases for larger bandwidth plans, and we offer them. If you need a better plan, it’ll be evident in your internet performance. Ultimately, larger Mbps plans lead to quicker downloads and less waiting.

We are excited to offer a service plan with such a large number.  The fiber network is very capable and can deliver bandwidth at this level.  There are some things to be aware of though because this is such a high capacity line.

The first thing to know is at best you will see a transfer rate of 940Mbps if everything is working perfectly.  This is due to TCP/IP overhead vs the data payload.  A 940Mbps payload uses 1000Mbps of actual network capacity.

In order to achieve seriously large bandwidth numbers you will need to be hardwired in.  It is very difficult for WIFI to even deliver 500Mbps but it is possible.  We generally recommend WIFI for up to 200Mbps.  You will need to have very good, clean, short WIFI links and generally use 80MHz wide 5GHz channels vs small 20MHz 2.4GHz channels.  We know that might sound technical and if you have an e-vergent managed WIFI system we can configure it to deliver the most possible but at best, it’s not going to deliver 1Gbps over WIFI.

1Gbps service is a rarity and lucky as you may be to have it available to you, every server you connect to might not have 1G of free bandwidth to send your way.  This is especially true of speedtest servers.  Many of these free servers have a single 1Gbps connection to them.  If the server only has 1Gbps and there are other people running tests to it, you will not see a 1Gbps result even if your connection is capable of it.

1Gbps service is most useful as an aggregate for multiple tasks such as multiple simultaneous users with wired ethernet connections.  Achieving a single 1Gbps connection is possible but requires all pipes and servers end to end to have the excess capacity, which is a rarity on the internet as of the time of this writing.  It would be ideal to have 4k TVs hard wired to the router.  If you are a gamer who needs to download large console updates, the console should be wired and not use WIFI.  Having these large bandwidth tasks directly wired will allow them to happen at the full potential of your service and not use up WIFI capacity.

E-vergent fiber is a brand new state of the art fiber optic network. We are 100% underground. Even our vaults and splice points are underground vs above ground pedestals. This means car accidents and storm damage due to wind, trees, and ice are minimized and this results in a highly reliable service. Most of our wired competitors use aerial construction methods using wooden utility poles or in cases where they are underground they still use pedestals that can be damaged by snow plows, cars, and lawn mowers including road right of way mowing.

You can learn more about this on our about us page, but in short we take the quality of our network, excellence in customer service and your overall customer care experience very seriously. Through our partnerships in local data centers in Milwaukee and Chicago we have established connectivity to the major streaming services and content providers such as Netflix, Youtube, Facebook, Dropbox, AWS, Azure and many others. This means there is local oversight into the connectivity between these major destinations vs relying on the general internet to keep these pipes congestion free. e-vergent expects to actually deliver our service plan speeds even at peak usage times. We’re also proud to have local employees who care about providing awesome service to the neighborhoods they represent.

e-vergent makes a significant investment when we commit to our vendors and employees to provide a high level of service to our valued customers. In order to deliver the high-level services that we promise, we ask that you stick with us for a period of time that makes sense. If for some reason we’re not delivering the service speed or reliability that you expect, we welcome you to call our technical support team. They’ll be happy to help diagnose the issue and resolve it with a service call (if necessary) or by upgrading the network. The vast majority of the time we can resolve issues quickly, but in the unlikely event where we can’t provide you the agreed upon level of service we’ll allow early termination of your contract, without penalty.

We encourage people to read through our reviews on Google and Facebook. You will find that we are exceptionally good at what we do, and our customer care is exemplary. e-vergent values our customers and does everything we can to keep our promises and deliver great service.

A NID box is mounted on the side of your home.  This is where we transition from fiber optic cables from the buried network along the roads to copper ethernet into your home. Installations are usually scheduled for two hour blocks of time starting at 9AM, 12:30PM or 2PM Monday through Friday. No appointment slots are available on Saturday or Sunday. Someone over the age of 18 is required to be present for the duration of the installation.

The trenching will happen at the time of installation or soon after.  We need to bury the fiber line to your home.  We do this by using a small vibratory plow.  By definition it will leave a mark.  The good news is the mark is relatively minimal.  We make efforts to have as light of a footprint as possible but you will know we were there.  The good news is that grass is resilient and grows back quickly since our disturbance is generally very minimal.  If you give it a little bit of time the grass will grow back and you’ll never know it was there.

e-vergent routerWe include a managed WiFi router with all service plans. Most customers who have very few wired devices, demand WiFi to work exceptionally well and cannot distinguish between Internet issues and WiFi issues. We solve this by supplying a high quality, fully supported WiFi router. Quality WiFi connectivity is important and is enhanced with our robust router. In some cases larger homes may require additional, integrated mesh units. For a nominal monthly fee, we can provide ubiquitous WiFi coverage inside even the largest homes. During the installation our technicians will take signal strength readings to make sure you have adequate WiFi coverage in your home. The faster the service is, the better your WiFi signal strength for each device needs to be. e-vergent feels there is more to a quality experience than dropping a single router in an arbitrary location in your home and moving on.

Experience phone appThe e-vergent experience is an application that runs on the e-vergent managed router. For a small monthly fee you can access this app from any smart device. It provides three main things:  prioritization of devices of your choosing, a security component that adds firewall-like features to protect your devices from threats, and application-level & parental controls where you can set restrictions or time limitations on specific applications or devices. This service option has proven to be very popular with those who work from home or have security concerns for their school-age children.

We do not offer TV service directly. That said, a high majority of our customers stream video content over our Internet service. There are streaming options for live broadcast and network TV as well as video libraries from companies like Netflix, HBO, or Disney. You can find technical bandwidth specs on each service’s website for HD or UHD quality. We also have bandwidth recommendations in another section on this page. Many TVs have built-in apps to directly talk to streaming services. If your TV doesn’t have built-in options you can look into purchasing a device such as a Roku stick or Roku Ultra. These devices connect to your TV and your home’s WIFI and allow you to stream service where you otherwise couldn’t. https://www.roku.com/

The list below is not an exhaustive list and any internet-based streaming service will function on e-vergent’s internet service, but these are the most popular options to get you started. Due to pricing changes and content lineups, we don’t get into a ton of detail on each service but hopefully, this gives you a place to start researching what streaming service(s) might work best for you.
